Breastfeeding can be one of the most unnatural “natural things” mothers and babies learn how to do together.
Breastfeeding is amazing because in addition to offering vital nutrients and immune-boosting antibodies, it also strengthens the link between mother and child. That said, Unfortunately, many new mothers find it difficult to locate the ideal breastfeeding position.
As a new mom, I encourage you to try variety of breastfeeding positions, each of which has advantages and disadvantages of its own.
One of the most popular positions is the cradle hold, in which the infant lies on their side with their head in the crook of the mother's arm.
Although this position is excellent for bonding and makes it easy for the mother to see and monitor her child, it can be taxing on the arm and may not be comfortable for women with larger busts.
No matter what position you choose, the most important thing is to ensure that your baby is latched on properly and getting enough milk. This is where working with a trained lactation consultant can make a world of difference in your feeding journey.
Finding the ideal position for you and your baby may need some trial and error, but with persistence and experience, you may find a supportive and efficient nursing position.
